Biot
Biot has a history that goes back 2 500 years. The current commune of Biot was first occupied by the Greeks and then by the Romans. But it was the Knights of Templar who structured the centre of the village during the 13th century.

Unfortunately the combined disasters of the plague and the war brought the town to its knees during the 15th century. The revival of the town only came in 1470, under the administration of the King René. Trade with Italy developed and Biot even started to compete with its rich neighbour, Antibes.
Today, Biot resumes a more humble place; it has become the address for many luxurious secondary residences. The Spice Girls moved in here in 1996 to prepare an album. To get the true feeling of the village, one has to simply stroll through its streets.
From its modest rocky peak, Biot is a truly peaceful town surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Riviera. Painters, basket makers, ceramists and especially glassworkers have found refuge here. Its glass craft has made the village known world-wide. As pottery is associated with the town of Valauris, glassware is associated with Biot.
Fernand Léger museum
And if Vallauris immediately brings to mind Picasso, Biot can equally boast about another well known contemporary artist, Fernand Léger. The museum that is devoted to him proposes 348 works. The building itself cannot be missed because of its 500 m2 mosaic and ceramic façade. |
