Vallée des Merveilles
A fantastic journey through 4 000 years of history awaits you in the Roya and the Bévera Valleys. Situated on the eastern side of the Alpes-Maritimes, the Vallée des Marveilles is in fact a true open air Prehistoric Museum, and one of the most important rock engravings sites in the world!

About thirty thousand inscriptions affixed on hundreds of schist stones can be found here. At an altitude of 2 000 meters, the landscape is totally breathtaking. To discover these treasures, you will have to leave your car at Lake Mesces, then walk for 2H30 to reach the beginning of the Vallée des Merveilles. The valley of Fontanalbe, which equally forms apart of the site, can be visited from Castérino.
Finally, for those who are lazy or passionate about archaeology, the Musée des Merveilles, created by the Conseil Général of Tende, retraces the history of the site in a fun and educational way.
