Valensole plateau
Located east of the Durance and not too far from Manosque, Valensole plateau rises up. The influence of the Alps, which are close by, is felt in this austere and almost barren area, which is a place for summer pastures.

The almond trees have made their home here. Lavender and lavandin, a man-made hybrid, are cultivated here as well as other flowers that appeal to apiculturists.
Valensole is a small town with less than 2 000 inhabitants. A church and the buildings of an ancient Benedictine priory that has given its name to the plateau dominate the town. The Plateau of Valensole releases a mysterious atmosphere, whose rough and solitary character has inspired the solid souls of Jean Giono’s characters.
