Sainte-Victoire
As Mount Ventoux and Sainte-Baume, the Sainte-Victoire Mountains are one of the most famous wonders of Provence. At an altitude of 1 011 metres, Sainte-Victoire offers an exceptional panorama over the whole countryside of Aix-en-Provence. The southern side, that dominates the Arc Bassin, presents an abrupt slope, while on the southern side, it unfolds into a series of limestone plateaux onto the Durance Plain.

The Sainte-Victoire Mountain is in itself a magnificent site. It is very luminous, to the point that it makes one think that the sun has made its home here. Its contrasts, the nuance of its colors, red at the base and white higher up, has made it the privileged subject of landscape painters. Of all, it is Cézanne that remains inseparable from Sainte-Victoire.
Today, Sainte-Victoire is the privileged spot for rock climbing and hiking. Many trails has been created to either access the heights or to visit the 18th century priory, or to reach the «Croix de Provence», the Cross of Provence. A short route will allow you to explore the mountains, thus offering the possibility of admiring every corner of Sainte-Victoire.
